The rooms of this place are truly amazing, but I would not go alone. Holding the hand of someone with a steady footing cam make this attraction a wonderful experience. And a private guide can easily help with the difficult parts. The good part is that there are no long narrow tunnels.
Cappadocia is incredible place to explore. The houses and churches carved out of rock are facinating. There were even coffins, 1 with a skeleton in it. This attraction was part of our booked tour and it was neat to see the insides of all the openings we saw cut into the rocks in the area.
Fantastic – do not miss derinkuyu underground city while you are in Cappadocia, although think twice if you are very tall, wide or unsteady on your feet.
Selimay Monastery is in the very nature part of Cappadocia, ypu should see when you go there!
The drive down to Belisirma in the heart of Ihlara Valley was picturesque and well worth the effort. After parking the car the first thing we encountered was this attractive and inviting restaurant. The shade of the cute little huts, not to mention the opportunity to immerse my feet in the cool clear waters of Melendiz Stream.
Derinkuyu was amazing. It's an 8th or 7th century B.C.E. multi-level underground city which seemingly just keeps going forever. I believe our tour guide told us only about 10% of it was open to visitors, but there's a lot to be seen in that 10%. Several passages and stairways, kitchens, rooms, meeting rooms, live-stock storage areas, etc.
Interesting houses and churches. You will see plenty of similar cave accommodation along the way to the museum.
The underground city itself is very interesting, the process of visiting it isn't. Lines of tourists, crowded conditions inside and no one to explain the what and why. This site cries out for an introductory video that shows how things were done and can be watched in different languages with earphones.
Very interesting site and offers wonderful views at the top. we enjoyed the climb although it is not as accessible as the Goreme open air museum we love this site for its natural beauty.
Durmush Kadir’s Church is a refectory, where hundreds of cowled monks sat for their supper.
