Its one of the best place to see in cappadocia. Undergroud cities, beautiful Valley and churches. Cappadocia means land of beautiful horses.
Probably the most fascinating site in Cappadocia. Effectively it's a human ant farm from pre history, burrowing deep below the ground. Only the top eight floors are open to the public but it goes much deeper and is connected to other underground cities in the area.
This is a 2-3 hour easy walk through Ihlara Canyon. It was a nice break from the Underground Cities and Cave Monasteries that we had been visiting. I loved the many different wild flowers, and the trees beside the river provided a nice shade from the afternoon heat. Remember to bring water though.
What an experience and what a wonderful unexpected fairy tale land. By day we visited the underground dwellings, caves, churches in the rocks and took very early morning balloon rides. A visit to a typical Turkish cave house was included. I could have just stayed there.
Derinkuyu is the largest of all the underground cities in the region. It has 7 floors underground that are open to visitors as compared to 4 floors open at Kaymakli. We took a guided tour and we fascinated by the various rooms shown to us. Its certainly worth visiting.
My visit here was one of the most impressive I've every had. There were underground cities, dawn balloon rides, hotels built into caves, and scenery that makes your eyes pop. And everybody I met in this area was super friendly. You couldn't ask for more from a vacation spot.
It was a life time experience to understand a bit about the History and the culture of the people who and how they lived. People interested in History should visit once in a life time, if possible.
Spent the day very active and enjoyed the underground city.
Construction and usage history is amazing. Had no idea Hittite culture was so advanced. The city had 7 levels, 4 of which have been dug out. Inhabitants were able to remain within cave for up to 5 months with adequate water, air, food, warmth supply.
For the first I'd like to point out that this restaurant is NOT in Göreme. Ihlara Valley is more than 100 km from Göreme. It is the place where most of the tours have a lunch break. I took a green tour last week and also visited Belisirma restaurant. I don't think that the food was that awful 🙂
