- 07:20 Departure on Turkish Airlines flight to Kayseri
- 08:40 Upon your arrival at Kayseri Airport, you will be met & driven to Cappadocia region.
- Begin the tour with a view of the moonscape volcanic valleys from the rock-perched natural rock citadel of Uchisar Castle. Then take a walk in Devrent Valley, to see the extraordinary mushroom-shaped rock pinnacles or ‘fairy chimneys’. Later on explore the famous Goreme Open Air Museum, featuring the most impressive rock-carved churches and Byzantine frescoes in all Cappadocia. Finally visit to the incredible Kaymakli Underground City, a Christian place of hiding from Arab invaders. With the compulsion of the day trip, you will be transferred to Kayseri airport.

The open-air museum is a great way to get initiated to Cappadocia as you’ll get a historical, cultural context of the landscape. It’s a good 2-hour excursion of exploring all the dwellings and churches. Try to go either in the beginning/end of the day as the sun is quite harsh. Bring lots of sunscreen/water and wear comfortable shoes.
Dervent Valley is different from others in the areas, because it does not have the rock churches that are in abundance in places like Ihlara valley.
Instead it is more famous for the land which resembles a lunar landscape. Situated a short drive from Goreme, the valley still has the characteristics of the fairies chimneys and combined with the rocks of the lunar landscape that do actually look like animals, it provides a wonderful backdrop for the perfect holiday picture.

Interesting houses and churches. You will see plenty of similar cave accommodation along the way to the museum.
Cappadocia – Goreme Open Air Museum is truly a remarkable site to see. The paintings and the history are mind-blowing. I recommend taking a guided tour. The fact that you cannot take photos make it just that much more special to see.
El Nazar Church was a nice quick walk from Goreme a good space filler after other hikes or activities. I agree the fee is not really worth it for what you see. The custodian is a nice guy, however, and if you ask him, he may let you see the “hidden church” – its a semi-challenging 300m hike from this site, but its AMAZING !
