Hagia Sophia is one of the "must see" place in istanbul. It is full of history. I have been there several to take my freinds. whoevere I take they were very impressed. I go there with every occation. I highly recommend people to visit there.
My then wife and I visited Istanbul many years ago but the visit to the Grand Bazaar was an experience that even now I can recall with great clarity.Approximately 4000 stalls under cover selling just about everything imaginable and some unmentionable.Leather goods in particular are a good buy if you are prepared to haggle.
Thank you to Gokhan for sharing Istanbul with us with wonderful narratives, humor, and heart. He made our first experience in Istanbul a lasting impression. We haven’t stopped talking about our new friend Gokhan and have taken away with us a broader view of Turkey, the beautiful people, and life there in the past and the present. Hagia Sophia is a much earlier building than the adjoining Blue Mosque, inside there is a huge scaffold and restoration work seems like a permanent fixture. Nevertheless the scale of ambition of the Byzantine builders is breathtaking – this was the largest interior space in a building until comparatively recently. A Must See!
Dolmabahce Palace was marvelous – both outside and inside.
The cistern is underground “Basilica Cistern” very cool and refreshing to get out of the humid air. The history is fascinating, don’t miss the Medusa heads and the reason they are upside down.

Topkapi Palace is very impressive place and a must in every Istanbul Top 10 attractions list, unfortunately it could be presented in a much better way and the prices for what they show are too high. When we visited, the kitchens of the palace were closed without a sign explaining that they were under renovation or anything like that.
Taylan is an excellent guide. He is so knowledgeable and really is able to bring all the history of Istanbul to life. He keeps his groups very small. There were just 6 of us. It made for a much mor enjoyable experience having such a small group. Highly, highly recommended.
A visit to the old Hippodrome now known I believe as Sultan Ahmet Square, is I believe a must for lovers of ancient history. situated between the aya sofia and the Blue Mosque who's entrance can be found off of it.
