The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.

The Open Air Museum is a must-see when visiting Capadoccia. Walking through the fairy chimneys and seeing the churches really gives a unique historical context for the region. Watch your seat as there is plenty to trip on (or fall off of). The Dark Church is an additional fee but if you are interested in frescos, it is worth it.
i like the adventure to underground city of kaymakli. go down uinder about 10-20meters underground. very tides and very narrow. a little bit dark and lack of oksigen. with visiting this place which they believe from around more 1000years ago you can image how is the people lives on that time. what an amazing place indeed!!!
Pancarlik Church is most important and interesting, a monastic church housed inside a group of rocks.
Definitely worth the visit. . We visited Goreme Open Air Museum as part of a guided tour. There are atleast 5-6 ancient churches here and perhaps more around.
Once we arrived at the Open Air Museum, it just seemed few more rock-cuts but as we started to explore and absorb the atmosphere we started appreciating the surroundings as the area…
First of all, bring a flashlight as it will allow you to explore some of the hidden nooks and crannies of the underground city (we were able to go several rooms further in but in complete darkness).
This was one of the highlights of our trip. It's hard to imagine that the underground city was carved deep into the rock…
My dream come true ,i was planing for this trip for months I was excited and worry in the same time ,finally I was there every thing was perfect the accomodation , the tours and the guide tours ,the people are very nice and helpful the cities like goreme urgup avanos. …all amazing. I recomemded to every body..
We were lucky to find the office of Magic Valley and their Cappadocia tours in the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul. This was our first trip to Turkey, and our next stop was Cappadocia – they were able to give us a great selection of day tours. We stayed in a "cave hotel" in Urgup – which we highly recommend. Magic…
your guide might not take you there, but ask him to! it's an surreal place, you'll walk through the caves as you climb up to the highest peak in the region. the views from the top are breathtaking! it's really worth it.
Along the Kizilirmak River in town was one of the highlights of our Cappadocia visit.
The walk up Pigeon Valley followed the creek that was dry when I went. The visually spectacular fairy chimneys are often surrounded by small orchards, vegetable plots or vineyards, and when you come to Uçhisar you are in a nice small town to visit and a central hill, Uçhisar Castle, which affords a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside.
