The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.

Hard to describe how amazing this place is and even more so, to imagine people living in the caves!
This has got to be on anyones bucket list of must-see things to see before you die.
The huge number of bus tour groups that block the entrances to each cave make for long waits and difficulty in seeing anything. The frescoes weren't much more impressive than some of the others in caves in other valleys around, and you can visit those without the hordes.
Spent a night in a cave!! That is to say spent a night at a Bed & Breakfast in a cave. A truly amazing experience and one that has never been repeated. Lovely place and great breakfast. Took a tour through the caves, where the Christians lived during their persecution. Not a place to get stuck in!
Keep in mind that the signage in the area is extremely poor. I got lost the first time but encountered Kiliclar Valley, an amazing narrow gorge that was a lot of fun to navigate. Then I skirted the top of the ridge just before and above the roadway, across from Goreme Museum, where I could see, not only Kiliclar valley that I was just in, but a great view in all directions.
hiking through the terrain in Cappadocia is an experience in itself. The rose valley owing its name from the red sand stone mountain structures typical to the geology of Cappadocia is quite astonishing. Several pigeon holes as well as human dwellings are visible exemplifying the fact that people through ages have conquered nature. But in totality the spectacle is wonderful
It was very busy with lots of tour groups. It was nice to see but we stopped by many other places that were just as nice and not as busy.
If you have seen any of the other sites in the area, don't bother with this one.
You descend into the Red Valley, during your walk you will see several chapels where the monks were living the monastic life and pigeon houses and the colors here is rose and pink.
Sites were excellent..
This is a World Heritage site with a lot of important historical value . This is a do not miss on your visit to Turkey tour. Be prepared to walk steep inclines and climb stairs. I don't want to spoil the experience with vivid descriptions you just need to go there ! You won't be disappointed.
