The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.

Visit small pottery suvenior shops and do pottery to have a great time.
From Uchisar to Goreme it's easy to take wrong way and end up at the top of a canyon where you get stuck. However, the views compensate for the time spent backtracking. Be aware of a lovely turkish guy who will offer to help but asks for money at the end but was happy with halh of what he asked…
It's very beautiful to walk among the valley and to explore the different sights. I think that one day is sufficient to visit the National park unless you're very keen on geology, other wise it's going to be repetitive.
If you want to lunch I recomnd the restaurant "Camping cafe". They have a menu for almost 10 Lira that it's…
I Loved.. Kaymakli Underground City is Amazing…
Definitely a good way to understand the terrain, the churches and monasteries before moving on to Passabag and the Rose Valley. I would recommend this – but do this with a guide otherwise none of it makes much sense.
The Open air museum is a complex of rock formations, including several churches made in the stone. It is not allowed to Take Photos inside the churches to preserve the old paintings. The landscape is wonderful.
In my opinion, the panoramic viewpoint of Esentepe, Goreme is a tacky, touristic spider web. Tourism agencies regularly visit it while taking customers on excursions around Cappadocia.
UNESCO recognised. Must visit – definitely should be on your agenda
My fiancee and I did the Pigeon Vally hike from Uchisar castle to.Goreme. We got a bit lost, the pathways are not clearly marked; this caused us a bit of stress because we had a flight to catch later that evening but after climbing up the hill we got our bearings back and figured it out.
You can hike to Rose Valley directly from Goreme; no need for a car. It's a moderately arduous hike with lots of interesting caves and fairy castles. Like all the trails it is not well marked, but this one has enough spray painted arrows with the word "Rose" to keep you from getting lost.
