Visit the Underground Cistern (Basilica Cistern),waterway was used as a reservoir for water storage for the Great Palace and other buildings. It is 132 m length, by 65m wide. There are 336 columns in the cistern. Most of the column capitals are either in Corinthian or Doric Style. It’s impressive.
After leaving the Basilica Cistern you will finally have the opportunity to do some haggling at the Grand Bazaar, the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is like any bazaar except that, as its explains, it is all within one huge building. Topkapi Palace as a great piece of architecture, it truly stands out. The interiors, the massive expansive structure, the different parts of the palace, take most of your day. So,keep a full day till 5 pm for visiting this palace. There is a separate ticket for the harem section. So,if you are not interested ,take only the palace tickets.H AREM section is separate n has another entrance.
Basilica Cistern hidden sight of Istandbul is an ancient (and btw with 9.800m² the largest) cistern (amongst several hundered others), located 150m SW of Hagia Sophia, built in the 6th century, at the place of the Great Basilica (that's why the name). It provided water filtration (with a capacity of up to 100.000l, today only less 1m water depth).
Topkapi Palace has a lot of history. It is a symbol of the life style of the royals. It has some beautiful pieces of invaluable treasures. My daughter didn't want to get out. She was insisting on a stay inside the palace. A must visit place in Old Istanbul
We had a terrific day our tour was flawlessly performed from start to finish.
La antigua iglesia de santa sofia o aya sofia es un lugar mut cautivador todo bien…
We had an excellant Tour. It was really great! Thanks and all the best..
Topkapi Palace was well worth the visit for us, some real culture and amazing Architecture here. It is surrounded in a beautiful garden with some amazing views. The palace itself you get to see various jewels, weapons etc. An overview of the palace itself.
Really there are plenty of things to see and do in Istanbul and as I only stopped 2 days will definitely make a return visit perhaps next year, but Basilica Cistern amazed me perhaps because it's underground and a massive structure ,it seemed to impress me for this reason. But it was so peaceful and the atmosphere was unusual.
