Uchisar is a small village of Cappadocia  that has some of the most luxurious hotels in the region. It is located close to Goreme Open Air Museum and can be explored within a day or will serve well as an ideal base to explore beautiful Cappadocia.

Uchisar is very hilly and those with walking difficulties will find problems on steep streets and hills. From the top of Uchisar is the castle and one of the most magnificent views of the landscape. Walking around Uchisar will bring a smile to your face as you come across the unique police station and quiet cafes that are located in caves.

From the heights of the Uçhisar citadel, you have a magnificent and unrivaled view of the whole region.

Uçhisar Castle / Landlord’s Castle, (The big rock on top of the hill in Uçhisar). The view from the top of this massive rock with a number of rooms carved into it is well worth the price of admission. The path to the top is strenuous but short, mostly stairs and relatively safe. 5 TL.  edit

There are also many similar hand carved rooms and tunnels you can explore in the nearby Pigeon valley. Less stairs, perhaps less safe.

Uchisar is situated at the highest point in Cappadocia, The top of the Uchisar Castle, provides a magnificent panorama.

Entry fee is 5 TL and we decided to visit because we could see the castle from where we were staying in Goreme. There are better examples of rock dwellings elsewhere throughout Cappadocia but the view from the top is quite spectacular. It's easy to envisage how this would have been such an important position centuries ago for no enemy…

There is not much to see inside but there is amazing view at the top. We had museum pass card but they don't accept that. If you have one unfortunately you have to pay 5 TL.

The castle is quite high up and you do need to be fit to walk up. there is nothing stunning about the interior but as you walk up you will see different views of Uchisar and the surrounding area. Do go….

Astounding views of the surrounding terrain. Not as hard to climb as it appears.

Not so much a castle as a massive rock chimney that rises above the village of Uchisar. The main reason to visit here is to get a glorious view of the Cappadocia region. Best time to visit is late in the afternoon (or catch sunset) when the light is best.

The castle is nothing to write home about but it's a great introduction to the Goreme landscape from the top. Virtually all the well constructed wooden steps, & there are many, are on the outside. The last few metres from the top might present a slight challenge to the less able but still very worthwhile.

That's not a castle, that's just the best place to get an awesome view of the whole Cappadocia at sunset. Bring your camera with you and enjoy a 360° view!

If in Uchisar, do NOT miss this wonderful place. The Castle is amazing and the market around it is a fun fill fantasy and a nice switch from a mall !

Going up to the top of the castle at sunset is one of the highlights of any trip to Cappadocia! A "must see"!

The big tip is to try and go completely private. Many of the large tour companies offer private tour and they are going to charge a significant amount of money for the tour guide. However, many locations offer self-guided tours and therefore you have the ability to supply your own tour guide. Easily Book your guided private Ephesus tours, to see all the treasures of Ephesus Turkey. It's often said that Turkey has more ancient cities and classical ruins than does Greece. Well, it's true, and the Aegean coast holds a great number of sites, including Ephesus, the grandest and best-preserved of them all.
