Hagia Sophia an amazing place. It is the size that impressed me the most. An hour was sufficient. We arrived at about 10am, mid-November so no queue for tickets. Later as we were leaving the queue was very long.
Hagia Sophia is a must place to visit while you are in Istanbul. It is one of the biggest chrches of Euro -Asia. Depicting the pristine architecturul heritage of the Roman ( Byzentine) empire. The Museum is a historical place .
Although not all the exhibits were open, I enjoyed visiting and learning about early Turkish history, especially the Istanbul through the ages display upstairs.
There are displays in this Museum that explain and show the richness of the societies that lived in the earliest days of Istanbul. The tombs themselves are worth the visit. Part of the Museum was closed for renovation, so I do not know what we missed.
The places we visted were Mary’s House, Esphesus ruins, a pottery shop and a leather goods shop. We also stopped for lunch at a beautiful outdoor cafe. The food and the hospitality was great.
Hagia Sophia as an architectural icon it is one of the must-see sights when in Istanbul. Get there early or buy an online museum pass to beat the queues.
