In Western Europe, the Turkish bath as a method of cleansing the body and relaxation was particularly popular during the Victorian era. The process involved in taking a Turkish bath is similar to that of a sauna, but is more closely related to the ancient Roman bathing practices.
Turkish Bath, called hamam in Turkish, which has been present in Turkey for thousands of years. The tradition of the Turkish bath extends far back, to a time before Turks had reached Anatolia.
When the Turks arrived in Anatolia, they brought with them one bathing tradition, and were confronted with another, that of Romans and Byzantines, with certain local variants.
After pick you up from your hotel, we will take you to one of the traditional Hamams in Cappadocia, in Urgup or Avanos which have historical buildings.
There is few main procedures during the bath. When you arrive, the staff will provide you a cubicle in which you take off your clothes and wear the loin cloth.
After changing, you will be taken to the Sicaklik (Hot Room) of the Turkish Bath in which help your muscles loosen up, you will go to the warm room of the bath, the staff (tellak for men and natir for women) will scrub you down using Turkish soap and a special cloth that gets out all your old skin blocking your pores.
Once you have finished, you will be taken to the Sogukluk (Cold Room) and give you towels to wrap yourself in.
Then you can pay for having a massage or you can just relax and order some tea or other drinks else.

This was a great thing to do. My granddaughter and I walked over to this 300 year old Turkish Bath around 5:00 on a Sunday evening. After walking most of the day to see the sights in Cappadocia this was a wonderful place to relax.
Our first experience at a Turkish bath, from what we have read it is truly authentic! Spend the extra euro for the massage…….worth it! The bath is clean, attendants are helpful, really a great experience!
If you are going to get a flavour of Cappadocia, you really need to experience the Hamami. You really feel like you are immersing yourself into centuries of local tradition as you lay in the sauna, get exfoliated and washed and then finish with a hot oil massage. A must do experience in Cappadocia!
After this experience, I feel I know Turkey a bit more than before! Very nice experience, relaxing, detoxicating, a great revival after a long day.
I’ve had many massages over time and enjoy them but I’ve never had the Turkish Bath experience until last week when I was in Cappadocia. This was simply amazing.
Worth every penny, especially try the popular hamam in Cappadocia.
We have been to a Hamam in Marrakech and thought it was great but the Elis hamam was simply amazing. The space is quite beautiful, with wonderful service and the therapist whom I had was perfect, with men and women in their own spaces. If you are visiting Cappadocia this must be on your to do list..
What a great experience! Loved every minute of it. You leave feeling incredibly relaxed. My friend and I went at the end of our trip and it proved to be a great end. The staff were great, however they could/should have explained the whole process before hand. As first timers we werent sure where to go or what to do. We did the traditional massage and felt so great after, regretted not doing the package that included the oil massage as well. Maybe next time…Will definitely go back.
We had never tried a hammam before but Elis hamam is great this one was highly recommended and we were not disappointed. Clean, safe… and all the cultural experience. Worth visiting. And not expensive.
Nowhere else such an experience. The feeling …. after is fantastic
