Asansor is a historical building in Izmir Karataş quarter, within the boundaries of the metropolitan district of Konak. It was built in 1907 as a work of public service by a wealthy Jewish banker and trader of that period, Nesim Levi Bayraklioglu, in order to ease passage from the narrow coastline of Karataş to the hillside, the elevator within the building serving to carry people and goods through the steep cliff between the two parts of the quarter.

In time, the small street that led to the building also came to be known under the same name, Asansor Street. In the 1940s, one of the residents of the street was the singer Dario Moreno, who was to attain fame later.

It was recently restored and since then, became one of the landmarks of Izmir. The street was renamed Dario Moreno Street in memory of the singer.
Currently, top of Asansör is one of the most famous restaurants in Izmir.

I had my engagement party here and all I can say was the restaurant inside (the one in the old engine room) couldn't have been nicer. A bit like a castle inside it made for a warm evening. We shared the restaurant with a Greek family also having a festival. The place was perfect to treat the family and the…

Just dined at this place, the view is great, the food is average and pricey for the quality. They offer a set menu with couple of choices of main courses. We have been told the price is 50 Turkish Lira and drinks are extra. One of us wanted to have fish as main course and we only figured out that…

In one of the few quaint neighborhoods of Izmir, the Asansor combines historical interest with great views. A testimony of the city's cosmopolitan past, but also a vibrant point of present-day Izmir. Not to be missed.

The big tip is to try and go completely private. Many of the large tour companies offer private tour and they are going to charge a significant amount of money for the tour guide. However, many locations offer self-guided tours and therefore you have the ability to supply your own tour guide. Easily Book your guided private Ephesus tours, to see all the treasures of Ephesus Turkey. It's often said that Turkey has more ancient cities and classical ruins than does Greece. Well, it's true, and the Aegean coast holds a great number of sites, including Ephesus, the grandest and best-preserved of them all.
