Angora Castle  (Ankara Castle) is a fortification from ancient or medieval era in Ankara, Turkey. The exact date of its construction is unknown. Having been controlled by Romans and Byzantines earlier; it was captured by Seljuq Turks in 1073, by Crusaders in 1101 and again by Seljuqs in 1227. The castle saw extensive repair by the order of İbrahim Paşa in 1832 during the Ottoman era.

The outer citadel surrounds the old Ankara. There are 42 pentagonal towers along the walls, which range between 14–16 m  in height. The inner castle covers around 43 km2.  Its southern and western walls intersect in a right angle, the eastern walls follow the ledges of the hill and the northern side was protected with a different type of defensive walls.

The foundations of the citadel or castle were laid by the Galatians on a prominent lava outcrop , and the rest was completed by the Romans. The Byzantines and Seljuqs further made restorations and additions. The area around and inside the citadel, being the oldest part of Ankara, contains many fine examples of traditional architecture. Many restored traditional Turkish houses inside the citadel area have found new life as restaurants, serving local cuisine.

The big tip is to try and go completely private. Many of the large tour companies offer private tour and they are going to charge a significant amount of money for the tour guide. However, many locations offer self-guided tours and therefore you have the ability to supply your own tour guide. Easily Book your guided private Ephesus tours, to see all the treasures of Ephesus Turkey. It's often said that Turkey has more ancient cities and classical ruins than does Greece. Well, it's true, and the Aegean coast holds a great number of sites, including Ephesus, the grandest and best-preserved of them all.
